Llanelli Youth Triathlon

Report by Les Watson

The youth event incorporated the British and Welsh Championships and Pembs hopeful Luke Watson was in confident mood despite the vile conditions. Luke put in a good 400m swim and emerged from the water in the leading group. He lost a couple of places through transition but set off strongly on the 10km bike course that wound it's way through three loops and 8 dead turns. Going into the last dead turn at 9km Luke was in a healthy position in the top 8 and still on course to challenge for the Welsh title. Disaster struck at the turn when a collision and nasty fall left Luke grazed, bruised and with a broken bike, he was unable to complete the race. Sadly, his day of great expectation ended in disappointment and despair.

Luke is extremely grateful for the help and support given by the Tri Club team both before and after the race and has vowed to be back very soon.
