Pembrokeshire Duathlon - 25 May 2008

I had been looking forward to this race for ages - it does not involve swimming so it was right up my street!

Registration the day before was lovely and sunny - ideal! However - getting up nice bright and early on the morning of the race was somewhat overcast, with the conditions deteriorating by the second.

After a short warmup, race brief and run through of the rules by referee Jim, we were quickly away. The first run was a straighforward out and back along the cycle towards Johnston. I cant quite remember when the rain started, but by the time I got on my bike, conditions were pretty awful. This did not make what seemed to be a disproportionatly hard climb up to Waterson any easier. I was quite concerned at this point that I would not be able to get my bike legs in gear as I was passed by a number of cyclists. I settled into the bike once we turned right, although I was totally soggy through.

The second run was only 2.5k, and luckily that went relatively quickly, with the finish in sight.

All in all, this was an excellent race - and I was speaking to a couple of girls in the changing room afterwards and they were amazed that it was the first time the club had organised it. The biggest congratulations must go to Dave - he worked extremely hard sorting the race out, and I for one would be the first to say that this was one of the best organised and marshalled races I have ever taken part in - and a huge credit to all the marshals who remained encouraging and cheerful despite the awful conditions they were in! Thanks to each and everone one of them!
