Training > Cycling

During the spring/summer period the focus is on the open road, 'gearing' up for the race season and time trials. From April to September, members are encouraged to meet up at car park opposite the Haverfordwest Cricket Club. We usually leave at 7pm prompt so make sure you're there on time!  This session usually comprises a short warm up followed by an interval session,  which means cyclists of any ability can join in and not get left behind.  In adverse weather conditions keep an eye on the guestbook for cancellation warnings!

On 8th of June this year, for the first time a major event called the Tour of Pembrokeshire Cyclosportif is taking place. Pembrokeshire Velos and Tenby Aces have arranged training rides to prepare for this event which - we are able to join their clubs and take part in these sessions.

Throughout the year members are also encouraged to meet up at the same venue at 9.30am on Sundays. This is a good opportunity for new members/novices to get some advice from more experienced riders, although please note that as this is not regularly coached there will be no guaranteed session - the more of you that make the effort to attend, the more worthwhile it will be. These sessions are normally organised by members via the Guestbook facility of the website.

During the winter the club organises a 'spin' session at Haverfordwest Sports Centre (Sir Thomas Picton School). This session takes place on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 8pm from end of October until the end of March.

Members are also encouraged to join the Velos Cycling Club for their spring/summer events (mostly time trials, which are excellent training sessions). Take a look at their web-site for more news.

Four cycle time trials, two over 20km and two over 40km, make up part of the summer time trial series. Click on the link for more details.

Remember - the cycle leg makes up approximately 50% (in time) of most triathlons, so it really is vital to your success and continued improvement to work on this aspect of triathlon. Once you build confidence you'll love it!
