Cardigan Mayors 10k - 9 August 2008
Report by Mark Davies
Well how many can say I earned most points in a race in the interclub championships...lets think...Dave A and ummm well not many else I presume but you can now add my name to the list....[note 1]
35 runners took positions on a surprisingly dry evening....it had pelted it down all day and at about 4.00 the decision was made to go and if need be run in the rain, but as soon as we arrived in Cardigan the sun came out to make it a sticky muggy sort of night....and we were started by the deputy mayor in the absence of the real thing...who vowed to race next year and not start it when he would become the big cheese.
Well the field was strong but after a few runs over the last couple of months I felt quietly confident and after 7k I still had a good lead over the likes of Carwyn Thomas and Michael Kallenberg [note 2] but unfortunately my lace became undone and I trailed onto the finishing line in 22 place in 50minutes something.
For those who haven’t done this one its 5k up hill and 4.5k down hill before a 500m uphill run to the finish....my split was something like 27 minutes and 22 minutes nothing like negative split [note 3]...
Note 1- yes ok I was only 1 there but still look at the points scored....
Note 2- not really, didn’t see them until I saw photo on website!
Note 3- technical term see Runners World.
Mark's result!
