Neyland Marina 10k - 13th May 2007
Report by Dave Astins
Five associates of the club turned up at a very wet and windy Brunel Quay to take part in the annual Neyland 10k, part of the Inter Club Championships. A total of 65 people finished, and it has to be said that despite the nice cool temperature, the rain didn't help - soggy was the word! My daps are still squelching today.
I lined up at the start, casually chatting to top Sarn Helen runner Andrew Abbot. As we bemoaned our horrible (relative) lack of fitness, the gun went and we are off. It was at this point that what appeared to be a 6' 6" Kenyan ghosted from behind Andrew's shadow, and trotted off into the murk. That impression was mainly as a result of the fact that he was a 6' 6" Kenyan, and to prove it he romped home on 33 minutes something, a good 3 minutes clear of the pasty Europeans in his midst. Note to self: must do something about second rate genetic make up.
Highlight of the day was the plethora of Pembrokeshire Harriers marshalls at all the key points on the course, all cheery despite being sodden and cold no doubt. Thank you kind people (and a useful prod to PTC members to offer Alex your help for Dale!). A quick scan of the results would appear to show that I came 3rd open male, and Karine likewise in the female category (I won't mention the typically girly "what are you wearing" conversation I had with Karine before the start). I'm sure Kevin's time isn't right, as the sprint finish Dave Griffiths from TROTs had certainly wasn't with our Kevin, unless he was wearing a TROTs vest too!!!
A final plea - when entering any race please ensure that Pembs Tri (or if there's enough space, Pembrokeshire Tri) is entered in the 'Club' box on the entry form - it looks like we only had two runners according to the results!!!
