Club Duathlon
10th March 2007
Report by Alex Ilyat
This was the first race that Luke Watson had organised; it was very professionally done and went without a hitch. The field included 8 novice triathletes and 19 competitors overall, more than in previous years. Everyone was looking forward to kick start the season.
The first 5k was the same as the club 5k route, firstly around the outside of the race course and then inside the cricket ground. There was a noticeable breeze on the run. The 20k bike was tough as there was a strong headwind on the outward stretch towards Broadhaven. Fortunately the ride back was a little easier with the tail wind. As expected the second run was hard, very hard. The path in the cricket ground had been replaced with jelly, especially the first 800m. By the time the feeling was returning to my legs the run was over. Patrick Martin won overall in a time of 52:32 with Dave Phillips in 2nd place at 54:27 but winning the novice category. Rhiannon Ace took first place for the women in 57:45. Karine Davies was first place novice female in 1:08.33.
It was good to see lots of people from the club racing, marshalling and spectating. The post race bacon butties were a definite bonus, and well deserved. Thanks again to Luke and family for organising this race.
