Llys-y-fran 10k June 3rd
Report by Darren Evans
5 of us gathered for some seasonal mud wrestling and the usual mystery regarding how people can run so quickly, even at all, in such conditions!
It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a race with such a melee at the start, and this was propagated when the path went just wide enough for 2 runners and occasionally somebody walking their dog.
The course itself was quite tricky. It is quite severely hilly initially with lots of slippery sections, difficult descents and concealed ankle breakers, never mind the mud and little lakes everywhere! Add to this the fact that I blew up beautifully within a few kilometres and you have the recipe for a day that I wish I’d woken up with a sufficient hangover to keep me in bed! However everybody else from the club appeared to fare much better than I, so maybe my damning race report is a little unfair! It starts to become much kinder after halfway and is almost (but not quite!) a pleasure right until the finish.
Not terribly convinced that it’s truly 10k, but that’s perfect when you’re having a “bad day at the office” (or wishing you were having a bad day at the office- at least it’s less muddy in there!) On a personal level this race has been logged in the diary with quite a substantial “what I learnt today” section! I’ve only ever run the dam in a clockwise direction which I think is easier than anti-clockwise like this race was. Or, at least, I take comfort from that excuse.
