Cardigan Valentine 12k Race

Race Report by Roger Devonald

Only twenty-eight runners turned up at the start.  Where was everyone?  Where was the love? This was supposed to be a Valentine’s race OK!  Patrick and myself were the sole representatives from the Tri club, I couldn’t really ask him to be my partner for the day, what would people think?  What would people say? I would never live it down!  Mind you some people would do anything to get a prize!  The race started at Cardigan Rugby Club.   The course consisted of a big loop with some really decent climbs and one particularly long downhill taking in superb views of Cardigan Bay and Poppit Sands.

Felipe Jones won comfortably with a very quick time of 43:27 followed in by Glyn Price of Sarn Helen and 1st Vet Les Hewitson of Ingli Runners.  Patrick came in a very credible 4th with a time of 49:21.  Patrick received a prize for 3rd open male.  I had a close run duel with Paul Edwards of Pembs Harriers, but managed to pull away from him in the final km and finished in 6th place overall with a time of 52:10. That gave me the prize for 3rd Vet.  Claire Cleathero took honours in the women’s race.  I think Connor & baby James were very impressed by my performance and Connor commented afterwards, "you were leading at the start!" Bless him to tell it as it is!
