Goodwick R.N.L.I. 10k
Sunday 20th August 2006
Report by Peter Munn
Some nut a few days before suggested swimming the 1500m time trial route prior to attempting a 10 k road race. Apparently it would be good training for Bala!! So off we traipsed arriving at a muggy Goodwick at 09.20. It did not look too inviting and as no one else was present myself and Karen were just settling down for a little siesta before the run when Adie, Dave, Ellie and family turned up. Damn!
So we donned wetsuits and believe it or not it was quite pleasant with the low tide making for bottom viewing all the way round. It was quite a relief with due to the low tide we had to stand up 200m from the slip and walk in. It was the 1st time I had broken 30 mins for the course but Karen put the mockers on it reminding me we had only probably swam 1200m!
This left 25 mins to change, register and stroll over to the start line to join 42 other competitors. It was good race conditions with a lot of cloud cover and off we went. The course was reasonably similar to Newport, i.e. 8k uphill, 1k flat with a screaming fast last k, or in my case last k recovery.
Again Dave and Patrick were well to the fore with myself, Lucy, Terry, Val and Karen all running well in a strong field.
